Flow Cytometry
This core provides high-speed cell sorting, flow cytometer analysis and related consultation services to determine the characteristics of the cells in a complex cell mixture. Cell populations of interest can then be collected on the cell sorter for further experimentation. The facility is overseen by a faculty Scientific Advisor, Dr. Helen Horton.
Flow Cytometry Equipment
- Cytopeia Influx cell sorter: Equipped with three lasers (ultraviolet, blue and red) and capable of detecting eight colors; the sorter is housed in a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) facility and additionally includes a biocontainment system for sorting BSL-2+ level infectious agents.
- BD FACS AriaII cell sorter: Equipped with four lasers (ultraviolet, blue, violet and red) and capable of detecting up to 17 colors simultaneously. The sorter also has an aerosol management system for sorting BSL-2 infectious agents.
- BD LSRII analyzer: Equipped with four lasers (violet, blue, green and red) and capable of detecting up to 18 colors; includes a high throughput sampler (HTS) that can rapidly introduce samples from 96 and 384 well plates.
- Beckman Coulter Epics XL-MCL analyzer: Equipped with a blue laser capable of detecting up to four colors; includes automated multi-tube carousel loader (100 tubes/hour).
