Seattle BioMed

Camille Robertson, Global Health Intern

Meet Camille

Hometown: Bonners Ferry, Idaho

College: Seattle University, 2012

Seattle BioMed Mentor: Sebastian Mikolajczak

Reason for Pursuing Research: I have always been drawn to science, and last summer I did research with one of my professors and had a great experience. I love learning new techniques in the lab as well as the science behind them, and how they all come together to help solve the bigger problem. The Global Health Internship seems like a great opportunity to spend more time in a lab.

Global Health Internship Goals: Through the Global Health Internship, I want to gain more experience in the lab, learn new techniques, and just gain a better understanding of everything that goes into working in a lab. Most importantly, I want to contribute to the mission of Seattle BioMed and its research of infectious diseases.

Other Summer Plans: I’ll be studying for the MCAT and enjoy my last summer before my final year of undergrad!

Best Lab Experience This Week: The lab I am in is working with malaria, so I have learned a lot about the disease as well as the lab's previous and current research, which is all very interesting. Currently, I am working on bacterial transformations and working with plasmids that will eventually be introduced into the malaria parasite.
